Time to start again

I need to start keeping this again. As a start i am going to post something about my holidays that passed a while ago now i will admit, but nonetheless is the latest sort of thing that i have to hand and want to jot down. I went to Prague for Christmas and Paris just after New Years:

Prague was lovely. loads (but not too many) tourists. was staying at 5 star hotel owned by a friend of my brother's family. huge effing bathroom with heated floors. about all i remember to be honest. Oh, and my aunt passed out over dinner in a restaurant on 24th. kinda awkward. all the more so as we all took it in our stride as she (Aunt) does this kinda thing all the time. Czech waiters freaked out. quite the drama. made all the worse by the fact she passed out in the middle of the way to the only toilet in the restaurant. unfortunately, she really does do this sort of thing all the time, as she never eats. of course, explaining to her that that is the root of the problem is impossible. as she is also quite the hypocondriac, so everything is a sickness. one of these people who you will ask how they are, and you will receive a comprehensive medical breakdown of her many malaises. oh well. other funny thing (well, not that amusing, just kinda off-key) was that there were these HUGE gangs of Russian tourists dressed in the most hideous sub-Eurotrash outfits (patent pink plastic pseudo leather/feather boa-type things everywhere/gold jackets/men in tracksuits/you get the idea) absolutely every-freaking-where, following around male-looking babushka's brandishing umbrellas/flags - except in the Jewish quarter. the difference was somewhat pronounced and off-key when you thought about it. Got to see Kafka's House and the "Biggest Night Club in Eastern Europe" (real name). missed a funky bar called O'Ches - a fusion Cuban/Irish that i was trying to find, but did see dude walking around with sandwich board advertising it (in fact, carried around by just about the only black fellow i saw in the city). later, i was somewhat surprised that i didn't notice an arm that apparently lives above the clock in the main square. hmm, will have to look at photos closer...

Paris: lovely as ever. hung out a lot and saw friends. went to some galleries and a trashy club. lots of vin rouge, but mostly i remember the snotty waitresses. one place charged 10 euros for a diet cola (granted it was next to the Opera), and another the waitress brought us our bill (after much pestering and gesticulating on my part), and then sat down at the table next to us to eat her dinner calmly. ignored us for another half hour. had to grab another waiter. not even a hint of apology. now i remember why i love Paris so. hmm.

well, this is a start, let's see if i can keep it up. it can become my other New Year's resolution.
